Fur Rondy

The Fur Rendezvous winter festival, also known as Fur Rondy or “Rondy,” has a rich history and tradition in Anchorage. In the 1930s, Anchorage was a small town with a population of approximately 3,000, situated between Park Strip and Ship Creek. There were no modern amenities such as televisions, malls, movie theaters, video games, iPods, computers, or even the Iditarod. Winters were harsh, and people spent their days tending to fires, shoveling snow, and surviving the elements.
